PROTECTION

In the early works of Protection, I explored the dichotomy between being and appearing. We have this sometimes fragile ego that we want to protect by projecting an enhanced, idealized image of ourselves. This theme also prompted me to reflect on our need to protect ourselves from the outside world.

By covering the glass with a superposition of metallic knit layers, I express this need to shelter within a shell. Unfortunately, this protection that reassures us by keeping us at a safe distance can lead us to withdraw into ourselves, to distance ourselves from our humanity.
